This robot is mimicking toy robot styles from the 50's or 60's (that would be my guess).  It is never sold as anything that it isn't, in other words, there are counterfeit reproductions going around intended to deceive, but this is merely patterned after an older traditional style.  You may even be able to get these today.  I still feel it is helping to preserve a piece of toy history even though it is fairly modern.
