I believe the movie "Short Circuit" was Trimark's answer to E.T. Automation and robotic science had reached a level such that machines could be given adorable qualities. I think this film was also a test for the special effects team to see how far they could push the audience into caring for a cold machine. Johnny Five is anything but cold. I would say they pulled it off quite nicely.
Johnny 5 was number five in a series of robots created by a military contractor. These robots were intended to be the ultimate killing machines. A freak lightning strike sparked life into Johnny number 5. He escapes and you can guess the rest!
